Go Out

Tom brought this amazing magazine back from Asia and we're both obsessed.  This article is a radical mix of techy and hippy.  Plus how amazing is the model?  I think he's Tom's new idol.

I'd kill for this bad boy

olifanten paadjes

I came across a (brief) article in Dwell about this guy that documents these paths in the Netherlands.  I remember talking about these in Architecture School (at one time I actually thought I had the smarts for this degree).  They are the natural paths that people make.  A great example of these is on a college campus when it snows a bunch.  Before the plows plow the side walks people start making patterns in the snow.  The easiest or most natural way to get somewhere reveals itself.  Such an interesting idea.

Well all of these years later I come across this article of a guy archiving them.  It's real hard to read (meaning impossible) because it's in dutch, but you can see a few more of these images here.

A A Bondy

Tom took me to this show last night.  Tom is in love with him and now I must admit I can see why.

Gold Leaves opened, but we only got there for their last song.  I liked their sound, but I REALLY liked their album cover.

5th Ave Apt

Working on a new project with Tracey.  Yes it's a 5th avenue penthouse, yet in true Smilow style it's going to be super low key.  I have been finding oogles of beautiful things though - whether or not we will be using them I thought I'd start putting them together.

Sarah Lavoine

I came across this article about Ms. Princess Sarah Lavoine.  Definitely a new designer crush.  I love her work.

I'm gonna hear 'em sing

"I ain't gonna baptize. I'm gonna work in the fiel's, in the green  fiel's, an' I'm gonna be near folks.  I ain't gonna try to teach 'em nothn'.  I'm gonna try to learn.  Gonna learn why the folks walks in the grass, gonna hear 'em talk, gonna hear 'em sing.  Gonna listen to kids eatin' mush.  Gonna hear huban' an' wife a poundin' the mattress in the night.  Gonna ear with em' an' learn."  His eyes were wet and shining.  "Gonna lay in the grass, open an' honest with anybody that'll have me.  Gonna cuss an' swear an' hear poetry of folks talkin'.  All that's holy, all that's what I didn' understan'.  All them things is the good things."
Ma said "Amen."

A quote I wrote down while reading the "Grapes of Wrath".  It's what Casey (the preacher) is going to do once he gets to California.  I love it because to me it's so surprising - the thought of someone who has spent their life telling people what to do and what's right all of a sudden wants to start learning from them instead.

Kiosk

I finally got to Kiosk - a little shop in a Soho that's hid up in a second floor shop accessed through this sketchy little door with graffiti all over it.  You would never guess what was up there if you didn't know about it, but I've admired this little shop online for a few years now.
They have a rotating inventory of oddities from around the world.  Here is one of the treasures I made out with:

It's a lunch pail from India with three separate compartments for goodies.  They even come with little plates inside to eat on.  It's perfect for Tom and I because we pack lunches EVERY morning and I think I'll be motivated to pack one when I get to do it in this pretty little thing.

Home Again Home Again Jiggidy Jog

Could I ask for a better day home?  Never.  I am back from the BIG city and so so glad to be in my beautiful rainy mountain home.  Morning started with hugs and kisses from an early morning biker and ended with a bowl of oatmeal and hazelnuts from my perch on our stool while watching him get ready for work.  The afternoon is looking like a knit socks, tea, working afternoon with butter nut squash roasting in the oven.  It's a good day to be home.

Weeks of Fashion

Fashion week always gets me into such a flurry of excited, but oh so overwhelmed.  So many beautiful things and ideas to see at once.  This year I have a solid cast of blogs I have been following that have given diverse, yet edited view of some of the mayhem.  To list just a few:

Sartorialist - Great one because there's not too much, just little hits of it.  He also does an epic job of covering mens shows as well.

New York Times T Magazine Blog - They do a hyper amount of posts a day, yet there is such a wide variety of subjects that it's always interesting.

Man Repeller - She's a new one for me this year, but I had an instant crush.  She only posts on what she is interested in, but it's fun to see what's catching this kooky girls eye.
